Walter Jay Institute - Admissions

Admissions

We encourage prospective students to visit our campus and discuss educational and occupational goals with our School Director prior to signing our enrollment agreements.

Prospective students must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants who do not have a high school diploma and are beyond the age of compulsory school attendance in California (18 years old) and who can demonstrate the Ability to Benefit (ATB) from the training will be admitted by passing an independently administered test. Additionally, the student will have a personal interview to determine their likely success.

All applicants for admission to the Institute must first be administered a test that is designed to reliably measure their ability to be successfully trained to perform the tasks associated with the occupation to which the program of instruction is represented to lead. ESL applicants must undertake a placement test to determine which level they will be placed in. The highest level a student can be placed in is Level 3. The test name and scores for the other programs are as follows:

Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam with a score of 17 or better for the Medical Assisting, Computerized Office Management and Massage Therapist programs and for the Vocational Nurse Training Program a score of 21.

All students being admitted on an Ability-to Benefit basis must pass the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test; Verbal Exam with a minimum score of 200 and pass the Quantitative Exam with a minimum score of 210. Applicants who fail the exam are required to wait a minimum of 7 calendar days prior to retaking the exam and must take an alternate form of each exam.

Walter Jay M.D. Institute does not discriminate in admissions, advising, training, placement, employment, or any activity on the basis of race, color, national origin or religion, age, gender, physical or mental handicap, marital status, or political affiliation. We comply with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. All applicants are interviewed and evaluated on the basis of their ability to train in the field of study.

Open-enrollment is the first week of each month for most programs. Contact our office for the enrollment schedule for the Vocational Nurse Training Program.
