We believe that education makes a world of difference. All students can learn. Education is a collaboration of student, school, and community.
We seek to improve the quality of life in the local community through practical training and life enriching instruction.
The Walter Jay M.D. Institute an Educational Center believes in the uniqueness, dignity and worth of all persons. The person is a human being with physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs. Human beings have a primary need to meet physical survival as described by Maslow. Understanding the developmental and recognizable stages from conception through death, based on Erickson/Newman is the foundation for the life.
Our mission at Walter Jay M.D. Institute is to provide skill and language based education that will prepare our graduates for employment in entry level positions. Educating members of society to fit the role of caregiver
and members of health-care team to render safe effective care of patients in achieving optimal health is a primary outcome of this program. Our medical graduates will be taught to interact with the external environment that includes the patient, patient’s family, and the community incorporating cultural factors affecting patient care.

History

Walter Jay M.D. Institute, an Educational Center was co-founded by Dr.
Walter Jayasinghe and Prasanna Silva. Two goals were targeted when the Institute opened in 1994.
1) To provide real world education
2) Train the Community for entry-level employment.
Our students have helped reach this goal by walking out of the Educational
Institute as mature and confident contributors to the medical community.

The Educational Center was Located at Wilshire Blvd. in the city of Los Angeles and started as a Medical Assistant Institute to better serve the Medical Community with Medical Assistants. The school enhanced
their education by adding the programs of Computerized Office Management and again in keeping with the medical careers added Massage Therapist program. As the success of these programs grew, the Educational center looked into the community and found the
shortage of Vocational Nurses to be a problem in the Los Angeles area, with so many Doctors Offices, Clinics and Hospitals also Long Term Facilities. Recognizing the need for this program the space allotted for the school seemed small and with the growth the facility relocated to the current Shatto Place address. The more modern, spacious building allowed the education Center to spread their wings and offer the community growth and development in the areas of Medical training. Thus the Vocational Nurse Training program was approved and the first class was opened in May 2006.
We are once again proud to announce the introduction of English as a Second Language program, starting in early 2009. Los Angeles being the melting pot of the world has given us the opportunity to help immigrants assimilate in the community and workforce of the city, by providing the language skills that will help open up a world of opportunities to people with career as well as educational goals.
Walter Jay M.D. Institute is now a National Certified Proctor Site for professional certification by the National Center for Competency Testing - NCCT. We are able to provide certification opportunity to our alumni, current students as well as the local community for the field they have education and experience in.
